Backup

The Backup tab creates a ZIP backup of your whole documents folder at the push of a button, with a manifest (date, number of files, checksums, version of the app). The backups are stored in the app's state folder under backup/.

Restore unpacks a backup into a new folder, never over your live data. You copy what you need from it by hand.

A backup is not a required step and no substitute for backing up your computer. It is meant for the moment before a big sorting session: a state you can go back to when Ctrl+Z is no longer enough.

What is not in the backup: the index (it lives on this computer and is rebuilt), the trash and the old versions — a backup keeps what is current, not what is about to go. The facts, the vocabulary, the bookmarks and the history live in the documents folder under .undan/ and are therefore included — see Facts.
