Editing PDFs
Right-click a PDF in the file list, Edit…: place text, a date and a signature on a page. Made for the everyday case “sign the form and send it back”, without a detour through a drawing program.
What it does and what it doesn't#
It adds on top, it does not rewrite. The existing content of the page stays exactly as it is, byte for byte; the app appends a second layer. That is why no line breaks get lost and no fonts break — the mistake Draw & Co. make when importing.
Everything additive is in: text, date, image. Everything that touches the content stays out: splitting pages, merging, deleting, rotating, changing existing text, form fields.
What you get is an image on a page, not a digital signature. A PDF that is already digitally signed is not opened at all: appending would invalidate the signature.
The window#
It is a window of its own, not modal — you can keep using the app next to it.
| Tool | What |
|---|---|
| Text | Drag a frame, type the text. Enter breaks the line, Ctrl+Enter applies |
| Date | a text box filled with today's date |
| Signature | an image (PNG with a transparent background). Choose signature opens the file picker with the images of your archive — on the right you see the image before you take it; if it is not in the archive yet, Computer … leads to the disk. The choice remembers the file |
Once placed: select, move, scale at the corners. The arrow keys nudge by
one point, with Shift by ten — the mouse can't hit a single point at 1/72
of an inch. Ctrl+Z undoes the last step, Delete removes the selected
box. Font and size apply to the selected box; you can choose from the
standard fonts every PDF viewer knows, so the result looks the same
everywhere.
The preview is a promise: real text, real font, real page proportions. What you see there is what ends up on the page.
Saving#
The app saves into the file itself, not as a copy — otherwise there would
be two versions in your archive, one of them wrong. What makes this safe is
the way back: the previous version is kept, the operation is recorded in the
journal, and Ctrl+Z in the Documents tab restores it byte for byte. The
finished PDF is first created next to the original, then swapped in; an
interruption never touches the original.
The OCR mark is preserved: the PDF is not sent through OCR again after editing.
Editing again#
After saving, a placed stamp is part of the document and can't be moved on its own. Instead the window shows a strip “Edited here on … · Revert the edit”: one click restores the version before it, then you place things anew. The offer lasts as long as set under Settings → Retention (default 30 days; the strip names the deadline), and only as long as the file has not been changed in some other way since — otherwise the strip does not appear.
